The Cagayan Anti-Drug Abuse Council was recently created in consonance with memorandum circular no. 98.227 issued by Undersecretary Ronaldo V. Puno of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Aimed to undertake the improvement and development of morals and for the maintenance of peace and order in the province, the provincial council was created as a result of the escalating use of illegal drugs which has significantly contributed to the incidence of heinous crimes nationwide.
Governor Florcncio L. Vargas said the problem on illegal drugs has to be addressed properly and effectively to help ensure peace and harmony in the province.
The Cagayan Anti-Drug Abuse Council is headed by Gov. Florenoio L. Vargas with Philippine National Police (PNP) Provincial Director Ameto Gil Tolentino as vice-chairman.
Members of the council are: DILG Provincial Director Asher P. Juan, Schools Division Superintendent Mario Ramirez of the Department of Education Culture and Sports, Provincial Prosecutor Paulo Remudaro, Provincial Health Officer Edgardo T. Baguinon, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Edna T. Junio, Provincial Information Officer Eugenio L. Pauig, Rotary Club of Metro Tuguegarao President Alberto P. Abbariao, and Father Bernie Corpuz of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao.
The anti-drug abuse council of the province is tasked to serve as a focal point through which various organizations and individuals work together cooperatively in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs on drug abuse.
Other roles and responsibilities of the council also include: the provision for an effective mechanism for the coordination of existing services and programs and those which may be developed in the immediate future; provision for a mechanism to obtain funds, volunteers, facilities and technical expertise; and performance of other related responsibilities as may be assigned by competent authorities.
