Maddulo kamu! Welcome to the Website
of the Province of Cagayan, the Smiling Land of Beauty!
A lush valley at the northeast most tip of the Philippines, Cagayan
is a stark surprise of verdant Sierra Madre and Cordillera mountains to the longest and widest river in the Philippines, the Cagayan River, from the lovely beaches of coastal towns to luxuriant lands heavy with golden plants to the infinite bosom of the Pacific Ocean.
Cagayan is home to 895,050 predominantly Catholic Cagayanos,
a happy blend of native Itawes, Ybanags, Malauegs, Negritos and the migrant Ilokanos, Tagalogs, Pangasinenses, Pampangueños, Muslims and Visayans--a truly warm, friendly and hospitable people, as every Filipino is charming in her quaint and deep-seated ancestral beliefs and traditions. With its historic setting of pleistocene elephants, rhinoceros, cobble tools as old as 5,000,000 B.C., a long retrospection to its colorful history of probable Homo Erectus inhabiting the province, to seafaring fishing Neolithic Ybanag villagers along the banks of the Cagayan River, to Spanish legacies of big churches, santos, and Catholicism.
